Trump is going to create a religious office in the White House to target anti-Christian bias in government and "fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism in our society and to move heaven and earth to defend the rights of Christians and religious believers nationwide."
Now, this executive order is an obvious separation of church and state issue and should have been immediately fed into a shredder by anyone who believes in our Constitution. But, let's set that aside because Trump and his cronies love talking about meritocracy. So...
Let’s talk about meritocracy!
There were 169 anti-Christian hate crime incidents in America according to 2023 FBI stats (the most complete annual stats we have available right now - but incoming 2024 statistics indicate that there will again be increases in hate crimes toward Black people, Jews, Muslims, and Arabs). 169 incidents are indeed awful. But, where does anti-Christian hate fall on the list of hate crimes? To give you an idea, here’s the top 5 hate crime categories in America in 2023:
Anti-Black/African American – 2960 incidents
Anti-Jewish – 1849 incidents
Anti-Gay (Male) – 1061 incidents
Anti-LGBTQ – 867 incidents
Anti-Hispanic/Latino – 805 incidents
In fact, anti-Christian hate crime doesn’t even break the top 10 of hate crime issues in our country. You can’t even argue that anti-Christian is the biggest RELIGIOUS hate crime in America since, as you can see from above, anti-Jewish crime is over 10X more than anti-Christian crime. And how about anti-Islam hate crime? There were 255 anti-Islam incidents.
Out of the 11,447 incidents of hate crimes, 22.5% were targeting religion (with the vast majority of those being anti-Semitic), but 52.5% were targeting Race/Ethnicity/Ancestry (with the vast majority being Black/African American).
So, if you're going to give a particular group an office in the White House based on their discriminatory targeting, it's obscenely clear who is most deserving. Yet, somehow, in a twist that surprises no one, Trump throws hard facts (aka "merit") out the window here. And we know why. This guy and his cronies' version of "meritocracy" is just straight up segregation.
Racism thrives on ignorance and apathy.
