Shane was born at the New London naval submarine base hospital in Connecticut. Just three months later, his father was transferred to Norfolk, VA. He grew up in various homes in Norfolk before moving to Leesburg, VA and, then, finally winding up in Windsor, OH.

Early on, he was inspired creatively by his parents (with a particular nod to his Mom), his three siblings and his love of Jim Henson, James Thurber, The Marx Brothers and Lynne Reid Banks.
He graduated from the Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA with a BFA in Theatre.*

While in school, he cofounded
The Animal Club Sketch Comedy Collective. And, after graduation, the group moved to Chicago. They spent 7 years together, traveling by planes, trains and a van that smelled of body odor and Wisconsin cheese curd. Their live and film sketches were seen at Carolines on Broadway, The Austin Film Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, Seattle Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, Sketchfest NYC, Sketchingham, and The Second City’s Donny’s Skybox.

*An important sidenote: PPU is also where Shane met his fiancée, Ruth Gamble, another cofounder of The Animal Club and a constant source of support, inspiration and collaboration.

In Chicago, Shane also took classes at Second City and completed the long form improvisation training program at iO. After graduating from iO's program, he was selected to play on a house team called The Chorus.

Shane began writing a series of short stories for a blog on The Animal Club's website called
Allister Cromley’s Fairweather Belle (Bedtime Stories for Grown Ups to Tell). The namesake came from a character he created while in middle school to annoy his sisters. But, over time, the stories morphed into whimsical and philosophically folksy tales about an introverted adventurer.

Shane moved to NYC and honed in on the Allister stories. Collaborating with directors Scott Illingworth and Jess Smith, he shaped the stories into a stage show. And he orchestrated fundraisers featuring the stories in Pittsburgh, Chicago, NYC, and LA using the stories to raise money for individuals who had come across hard times.

Then, he moved to LA where he collected 12 of those stories and published them in an illustrated book. The book caught the eye of a friend-of-a-friend working at Bix Pix Entertainment.

And that's where you'll find him today. He's a writer and the script supervisor for Tumble Leaf (Amazon Studios) and the writer and co-creator of Moonlight Storytime (HMH Publishing, Curious World). And he's very happy to be here.
